How kids can benefit from planning

Updated: May 16, 2022

Planning is one of the best life skills that kids can establish from an early age.

In this blog, I am explaining why it is one of the best!

Let’s say, that one of your kids come home from school, and they tell you that they have a science project to complete over the weekend, but they also have plans with their friend in the weekend.

Now, you would either cancel your plans, or cancel their plans with their friend, and it seems right to you. But, you could actually help and your teach your kids to plan, organise and schedule their tasks in a convenient way.

They could plan it like this:

Example:

  • Work on science project - 4:00 - 5:00 pm Friday

  • Go to my best friend’s house! - 10:00 am - 4:30 pm Saturday

  • Work on science project - 5:00 - 5:30 pm Saturday

  • Dinner at grandparents’s house - 5:30 - 9:00 pm Saturday

  • Work on science project - 10:00 - 11:00 am Sunday

Kids can plan their day according to their tasks, like they can organise their tasks into different days, like example shown above.

They can do it for their:

  • School projects/homework

  • Birthday parties or any other gatherings with friends to attend

  • Family dinners, weddings, reunion or any family meet-up

  • Camps or club meetings

  • Meetings or talks with someone

Planning is an effective way to help all the kids plan out and organise their tasks, and help them to sort out their activities into different days, weeks, months, or year.

Some ways they can plan is:

  • Scheduling important dates on a calendar

  • Listing some of the important things to complete

  • Writing their actions and how it benefits them

  • Creating a mind-map of their ideas and actions

Kids can plan their weekends, or summer vacations, and winter breaks.
